- Todd Helton, longtime first baseman for the Colorado Rockies, has been hitting well this season (currently batting .309), coming back from last year's injuries, according to USA Today. Despite being in the apparent twilight years of his career, Helton shows few signs of slowing down. What's his secret? The team's senior slugger, who has been active with the Rockies since 1997, has integrated yoga into his new workout routine, the news source said.
- A yoga studio in Colorado Springs held an outdoor session on August 13. Why that particular date? According to the city's newspaper, The Gazette, the yoga class was scheduled to coincide with the full moon. Practicing meditation out in nature can help the mind empty itself and the body feel its connection to a wider sphere of being.
- Some of the state's holistic health companies are cranking out popular yoga products. For example, the Bolder Yoga Mat Company, based in the similarly-spelled Colorado town, has released a line of brightly colored mats with words and designs embossed on them. - Researchers recently attended the Colorado Integrative Medicine Conference 2011: Focus on Mind-Body Medicine and Lifestyle Management. This meeting focused on the effects of yoga on ADHD and eating disorders, among many other topics.
- A club called Colorado Springs Organic Men recently hosted the Colorado Naked Man Festival, which featured nude art, nude yoga and nude lectures, according to the Colorado Springs Independent. "The festival's goal is to showcase the male body in it's magnificence in various forms and venues," the source said, quoting the club's website.
