Ilchi Lee writes that all of our movements in DahnYoga, from a twitch of the eye to the subtle movement of a smile, are connected to a specific part of our brain, for our brain controls every single movement that we consciously make. Therefore, working on specific parts of the body translates into stimulating the associated areas of the brain.
We have an established pattern of movement and exercise in our daily lives. Even if we work out at a gym, we tend to repeat the same motions over and over again. This means that we are stimulating identical parts of the brain again and again. If we want to stimulate less frequently used areas of the brain, then we must work with parts of our body that we have neglected. We must engage in new patterns of exercise. This is exactly what we seek to do in Brain Flexibility Exercise. We shall try new exercises with different rhythms, concentrating on left and right brain coordination, to stimulate and bring flexibility to our brain.
When we make a movement or a motion, its pattern is already designed and laid out by the brain before the body signals to actualize it. Therefore, a physical motion signifies that a mental design or image has already been completed. For example, when we draw a sign of infinity in the air with our hand, our brain has the same image already drawn onto its surface.
