Two Ways to “Soften” Your Brain

There are two ways to introduce flexibility into your brain. Like a computer, the brain is comprised of software and hardware. The actual physical brain is the hardware and the information processed by the brain is the software. The difference between the brain and a computer is that the software and hardware inside the brain form a symbiotic relationship of mutual transformation. In other words, a change in software can transform the hardware.

According to Dr. Ilchi Lee views “Softening” the brain’s hardware means that we exercise the brain through physical stimulation. Just as you need to stimulate your muscles to develop them, you also need to stimulate your brain to develop and enhance its neural network. And exercise will relieve latent stress in your brain just as it does for your muscles, not to mention increasing efficiency of the brain with an enhanced neural network.

“Softening” the brain’s software means to diversify7 and transform the information processing activities of the brain. The more diverse the information processing procedures are, the more mental stimulation your brain will be subjected to. This results in the formation of a greater number of synapses, in effect, expanding the neural highway system of your brain. You will develop new insight pertaining to the world, formulate a new system of values for your life, and focus on more creative and novel ways to reach your goals. Traveling, meeting new people, and encountering new environments all act to bring about changes to your brain, for these experiences leave a new neural imprint in your brain.

So, we are able to change the “software” of the brain by changing its “hardware.” Or, to transform the “hardware” by changing the “software.” Then how do you stimulate the brain? Since the brain does not have any motor nerve or muscle to move itself, we cannot physically move it. However, we can utilize our body parts wired to the brain nerve system and our sensitivity to energy to stimulate the brain. We are, in effect, engaging in an “energy” workout for the brain.
